How to get silver grey hair

Thanks to Google Trends, we can see that grey hair trend is taking over the island - thousands of British women are searching for chic silver grey hair dye and dark grey hair dye , and we couldn’t dismiss this request! How do I know if silver grey hair will suit me?

First of all, consider your skin tone. Silver grey hair will look best on olive and fair skin with yellow undertones. If you have a pink tone, your skin may appear red and irritated with a cool grey hue. So for you, it’s better to go for a peachy colour such as Metallic Rose Gold.


There’s also an amazing trick suggested by LA hairstylist Jessica Warburton who shared it in her interview for Matrix hair products:

“… Which looks better on you, silver jewellery or gold jewellery?. If they (clients) say, ‘silver jewellery washes me out,’ I tell them they’ll have the same result with silver hair colour and they probably won’t be happy with it”.

Dark grey hair colour is more versatile. It will suit any skin tone except very pale skin. It may look tired with a grey background.

How to get grey hair at home

Brunettes wishing to achieve a light grey colour would need to strip out their natural colour with hair lightener first, and then apply the Silver Grey hair dye. Bleaching may be stressful for your hair, so try to lighten your hair safely and do it in a few sessions.

How to maintain grey hair

As any pastel colour, pastel grey hair colour fades quickly, especially light grey. The less you wash your hair, the longer your colour will last. Invest in a quality dry shampoo and try to wash your hair twice a week to the limit.


Apply dry shampoo before going to the gym to skip washing your hair afterwards. When going to the shower, use a shower cap to protect your hair from water and additional sweat.

Use paraben-free hair products designed for coloured hair and find a nice purple shampoo/conditioner to maintain your silver grey hair.
